August 7th: I've been soy free, corn free and gluten free for about three and a half years now. Although, I cheat on gluten because it's more of a sensitivity than anything else.
I won't let this turn into a rant here today but boy is it ever hard to find snacks that don't have corn or soy in them. Those are the two things I absolutely can't have. I know my tolerance with gluten and dairy.
Avoiding these foods was never a choice for me it has been in my best interest. Going out for dinner in a restaurant can be embarrassing. I have to ask a lot of questions and special order most stuff.
I think a lot of people think I'm also a vegetarian, which isn't true. I can eat any meats except red meat. It's been difficult to keep the fridge and cabinets stocked with things I can enjoy. It's really easy feeding the rest of the family, I'm usually the one that runs out of things to eat first. I shop mostly at trader joe's and other local specialty stores. So getting fed can be expensive and I've had to expand my skills in the cooking department.
It hasn't been easy but I've got a very loving and supportive husband, who understands how miserable I used to be before I gave these items up.
So if you know someone who special orders all their food, don't be quick to judge (like it has happened to me many times) maybe they too have some restrictions and are merely making the right decisions for their body.
Have a blessed day.
