August 12th:
Marriage sure can be the ugliest and most regret filled thing you ever embark upon. But when you do it right, it is martial bliss.
Husbands, love your wives. Wives respect your husbands.
Those two short lines are our greatest clue and they are of course straight out of the bible.
We can't go into a marriage with the hope that we will get what we want out of it but what we can do for the other person. Because if your spouse is satisfied they will naturally fulfill your needs as well. It's the truth. If you're engaged in a relationship where both people are seeking God and love each other, it can and will work. Not only will it work but you will succeed.
Even if love is lost, there is a way to restore the love in a relationship-God. By laying your marriage on God's altar and surrendering it to Him, there is a way.
We are asked to regard others as better than our selves. Instead of thinking me first, think, what would my husband or wife want? Or how would this or that make them feel? It's a much easier concept than we all think... it's a learning process but it's possible.
There is nothing greater than having a blessed marriage because it spills over into everything else. And if you have children, those kids are watching and learning from you. One day they will venture out into the world seeking a mate. Wouldn't you want them to have a loving marriage? I know I do! I don't want to represent dysfunction in our house, there's enough things that are disturbing in this world anyhow, the home is the last place where things should be dysfunctional.
A happy, thriving marriage is a most beautiful thing! Do something extra loving with your spouse in mind today- get creative if you must. Do it with no thought of yourself in mind, just something for them.
Have a blessed day!
